Group membership

Groups are private or public spaces (depending on the privacy settings set by the administrator) for users to communicate and access Forums, documents, videos and more.

  • You may receive an invitation to join a Group
  • You can request to join a Group (see main dropdown menus)
  • Some Groups are set up by the administrator to automatically add you (i.e. removing the ‘Request to Join’ step. You will be told if this is the case, and if this does not happen, you can request to join the Group instead)
  • Notifications will appear in the site profile menu area, and some will come through to your email (depending on the nature of the interaction). You can configure these from your Profile.

Forums

A Forum is attached to a Group and provides a threaded discussion that enables group members to communicate

  • Upload documents, videos & images
  • Add links to cloud docs, videos etc.
  • Add more stakeholders as needed
  • Keep track of conversations & updates (rather than relying on email circulars)
  • Choose notification & email preferences

Note: sometimes, the system may tell you that you can’t ‘request access’ to the Group. This is almost always when you have already been added to a Group (i.e. added automatically based on your Profile Type or manually in the background by someone who has administrator rights to the website). If this happens, you can skip the ‘request access’ step and go straight to the Group (just go back through the same menu to click refresh browser or click again through the menu)

  • All published Events are displayed on the ‘Events’ page.
  • You can use the filters and search facility on the main events page to narrow down which events are visible to you
  • Events displaying in Groups: In most cases, links to events that are relevant to a Group will be posted in the Discussion Tab and / Or the Feed tab. However, if you are expecting to see an event in your Group but it’s not there…please go to the main Events tab in the main menu

If you find that you are waiting a while for your Registration to be approved (which is carried out manually for security reasons) you may find it useful in the short term to gain access to the Mentor Documents here.

These documents are mirrored in the Primary Mentors Group.  However, please do sign up to the site and the Group as this is where the most up to date information and messaging will be kept ongoing.

If you find that you are waiting a while for your Registration to be approved (which is carried out manually for security reasons) you may find it useful in the short term to gain access to the Mentor Documents here.

These documents are mirrored in the Secondary Mentors Group. However, please do sign up to the Group as this is where the most up to date information and messaging will be kept ongoing.

Problems / Solutions

If you click the link in your activation email and you’re shown an activation error message, it is may be because a SCITT staff member has manually activated your account (when they approve your account). In this case, you should be able to skip the activation and sign in using the email and password you chose during registration. If this does not work, please trigger a password reset which should then enable you to sign in.

Possible Profile Type error

  • Profile Types are sometimes linked to specific Groups, so that the registration process automatically adds a user to a Group and skips the step of having to request access. This is for security and privacy reasons, to ensure that only specific people are able to join specific groups.
  • This is a complex database process which can very occasionally get out of synch.

Don’t worry, this is easily solved with one of two fixes…

Fix one

  • Check to see if your ‘Profile Type’ is displaying in your Profile
  • If Profile Type is not displaying, ‘edit’ your profie and add a Profie Type
  • Once this is updated, refresh your browser and see if you are now added to the Group (look in the Groups Tab in your own Profile, or try accessing the Group directly)
  • If not, log out and in then check again

Fix two

  • If you are still not able to access the Group, please send an email to admin@rweducation.org – subject title ‘Profile Type’ and we will repair the interface.

  • Sometimes the email can take a while to come through, but most come through within a few minutes
  • Check spam, junk or updates folders
  • Try signing in without going through the activation email
  • Try triggering a Password reset
  • Try clearing your browser cache (cookies / history)

The registration process may vary slightly depending on factors such as the browser you’re using (e.g. Chrome, Edge, Safari etc.) or security settings of your computer, browser or network system. This can also happen because different Profile Types (e.g. Mentor, ITT Partner etc.) have slightly different automated processes. Don’t worry though, as this should not affect the main principles of the registration process.

Video Tutorial

The example in this video shows:

a) the sign up process
b) Automatic addition to a Group (i.e. in some cases, your Profile Type might be linked to a specific communication Group. In this specific example, you’ll see how choosing ‘ITT Partner’ as a Profile Type automatically adds this Profile Type to the ‘Market Review’ Group.

Please note

  1. If you should be added to a Group based on your Profile Type (e.g. Primary Mentor, ITT Partner, Secondary Mentor etc.) but you find that the system has not automatically added you to the Group, you can request access to the Group from the relevant dropdown menu at the top of the page (e.g. the Mentors menu tab)
  2. The menu navigation label shown in the video has changed from ‘Networking’ to ‘Mentors’.
